Leading Austrian journalists have been exploring Northern Ireland, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Tourism NI. The group – which includes representatives of various national and regional newspapers in Austria – has a combined reach of more than 3.7 million readers.
The aim of the visit is to showcase some of our culinary offering, so the group’s action-packed itinerary included dinner in the restaurant at Killeavy Castle Estate, a Foraging in the Foothills of Slieve Gullion experience, Long Meadow Cider in Portadown and a Belfast Food Tour. The journalists also enjoyed a boat experience on the River Bann and visited some of our top visitor attractions, including the Giant’s Causeway, Titanic Belfast and SS Nomadic.
Aubrey Irwin, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for Austria and Switzerland, said:
“Food and drink are an intrinsic element of any holiday experience, so Tourism Ireland was delighted to invite these influential Austrian journalists to visit Northern Ireland, to experience some of our wonderful culinary offerings for themselves. The articles they write when they return home will be read by more than 3.7 million people – so their visit is a really good opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland to a wide audience of prospective Austrian visitors.
“Tourism Ireland undertakes a busy publicity programme around the world each year to raise the profile of Northern Ireland – and visits by influential journalists like these are a key element of that programme.”
