Belfast based primary education app Komodo Learning is celebrating being shortlisted for a prestigious British Educational Training and Technology (Bett) Award 2024.
Komodo, which is best known for its primary maths programme, has been nominated in the Best Education Support Resource for Parents or Home Learning category for its new primary literacy programme, Komodo English, which was launched in July last year.
Komodo founder Gerard McBreen said: “We set up Komodo English in response to demand from subscribers who found that Komodo maths was transforming their child’s confidence and fluency in maths. They were asking if we could make a literacy version too, so we did.”
The English programme, which was developed with the input of primary literacy experts, uses personalised, adaptable learning plans which are set for each child by a real teacher. It also incorporates the latest interactive AI technologies to give instant feedback for learners.
Gerard said: “We think that we’ve developed a really innovative literacy product that supplements children’s learning at home.”
With Komodo’s well established Komodo Maths having already won a Bett Award in 2017, it’s the turn of Komodo English to shine in the 2024 awards, which celebrate distinction and innovation in the education technology sector.
Gerard said: “Since we launched ten years ago, we’re very proud to have helped more than 50,000 children worldwide get to grips with maths, and now English too. We’d like to celebrate this achievement by giving something back to families in Northern Ireland, particularly given the recent financial pressures faced by families here.”
Komodo is giving away 100 free year-long subscriptions, valued at £10,000, to families who apply online at transfertestni.com by 29 February 2024. The free subscriptions cover both the maths and English courses, and up to three children in each family can join. Low income families will be prioritised for the first 50 subscriptions, and anyone can apply for the remaining 50.
Gerard continued: “We’re hoping that Komodo can help solidify key maths maths and English skills, setting children up for success at secondary level and beyond, without parents having to go to the expense of hiring a tutor.”
